Since 1983, Rock City Gardens has been owned and operated by Tom and Rhonda Lowe. Their natural talent for creating and maintaining seven acres of beautiful tropical gardens is evidence of their passion for the retail nursery business, including the beautiful landscaping their talented team of horticulture experts have created and maintained for so many local clients over the years. The Lowes purchased the nursery from the Chapins, second-generation owners of the Tennessee tourist attraction, Rock City. The Chapins were also seasonal residents of John’s Island. Under Tom and Rhonda’s new ownership, and with a new vision for growth, the garden shop was expanded, greenhouses were built for the ever-growing flower production, and the grounds were continuously upgraded and beautified. The fruits of their labor became even more famous in 2004 when the Lowes received the prestigious S.J. Blakely Award for outstanding landscape design of a business in the nursery industry.
Throughout the years, the community has been supportive of the nursery and instrumental in making it the successful enterprise it is today. In return, the Lowes are active in community affairs. Rock City Gardens sponsors and hosts numerous annual benefits and supports other nonprofit organizations every year.
Tom and Rhonda graciously open their Gardens and invite you in. Inspiration guaranteed.
